FINAL BLOG

Part 1 - I have a synthesizing mind. Most of the information for my blog came in statistics like show ratings or number of viewers. I had to understand and evaluate that information to form my own opinion. For example the numbers told me that american idol and dancing with the stars received the most viewers, but i had to figure out why. Before i write about anything i like to know the background behind it and then make my own opionion.

Part 2 - I exhibit curiosity. I chose this topic because I wanted to know what the popular shows were and what new shows i could watch. I was curious to see what other people were watching. I also like to see other points of view. I constantly get bored with my own opinions and get stuck on ideas, so i like to see what other people have to say. When I was making my blogs, I always got side-tracked reading other peoples comments. After I heard their opinions, I saw the shows in a different way both good and bad. I also challenged my own beliefs. Im usually open to new ideas and if something better comes along ill usually go for that. At the beginning of the blog, I was pretty confident that criminal minds and desperate housewives were my favorite shows. Now i am not so sure.

Part 3 - I learned that I don't know as much about tv as i thought i did. There is a lot of different shows out there and I haven't even seen a fraction of them. There is a show about almost everything.

How many people are actually watching tv?

Commercials =[

I hardly ever watch commercials because I have DVR but I still get annoyed because I feel like every five minutes I have to fast foward. Honestly without DVR I wouldn't beable to sit through an entire show. So how much time is spent on commercials?
In the 1960s a typical hour-long American show would run for 51 minutes excluding advertisements. Today, a similar program would only be 42 minutes long; a typical 30-minute block of time now includes 22 minutes of programming with six minutes of national advertising and two minutes of local. Other countries are much stricter on the amount of commericials they can show. The amount of airtime allowed by the UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom for advertising is an overall average of 7 minutes per hour. Any extra time from American made shows are filled by trailors.

AH, the seasons are ending.

So I always freak out once all the shows are ending their seasons. The summer is way to long of period to go without watching my favorite shows. What will i do with my free time? I guess these shows will have to do.

Youtube isn't exactly prime time television but its still quite addicting. Youtube is a video sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos. It was first created by Paypal in 2005 and then bought out by google in 2006. The site is a combination of movie clips, tv clips, informational clips, music videos and amateur vlogging - video blogging. Out of all these options amateur vlogging is suprisingly the most viewed, and personally its my favorite too. They are said to be amateurs but theyre are rumored to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. This wouldnt be a bad job. Here is one of my favorite amateur vloggers.

Are they any good comedies on tv?

All the good shows on now seem to be crime shows or reality contests. So when do the comedies air?

Attribution to my favorite shows

I feel like writing a special entry dedicated to my two favorite shows - criminal minds and Desperate Housewives. These shows are truley the best shows on the prime time right now, and I believe that everyone should give them a chance. Or maybe not, because once you start watching, you will be addicted.

Desperate Housewives is centered around a group of neighbors living in a suburban neighborhood on Wisteria Lane. Each neighbor tries to deal with their own hectic problems and romantic lives, while each year brings on a new dark and twisted mystery in the neighborhood. For example season centers around a woman named Mary Alice who committed suicide after being threatened with blackmail. She was attempting to cover-up the fact that she murdered her adopted son's biological mother. As you can see this show is anything but ordinary will definately keep you wanting more. I recommend starting with the first season.

I just started watching Criminal Minds a couple of monthes ago, but i have already watched 30 plus episodes. Normally detective shows bore me but this show is different. The cast is relatable and the cases are definately bizarre. The first episode that hooked me on the show was about a Psychotic woman who abducted women resemble her doll collection. She dressed them up as dolls and made them have tea parties. To control them she left them sedated. Its good - trust me =]

Can remakes succeed?

ehh, not usually. The Twilight Zone for example was a huge hit in the fifties and sixities and since then, two modern versions of the show have been made. They were both good and enticing, but t
hey had failed to make descent ratings and were cut. Once an original has been made a huge hit, remakes fail to compare and are sometimes degrading. However two new soap remakes, 90210 and Melrose place, have debuted on the CW and so far have been sucessful. This time I think they will last.



Beverly Hills 90210 ran October 4, 1990 – May 17, 2000 and aired over 200 episodes. I'd say thats a pretty big hit. I've personally seen some of the epsiodes and i have to say that this is one of the most addicting shows that i have ever seen. The remake aired September 2, 2008 and has so far made it to 46 episodes. This may not seem like huge deal compared to the original but this shows potential. Most remakes barely make past the first season. While it may not be at the top of the ratings, it is beating shows that have made repeated seasons like the office, Numbers and americas next top model. I plan on this show being around for awhile.Melrose Place is also a second remake hit on the CW. This show actually debuted in 2009 after 90210 became a hit.

So why have these shows made it? My best guess is that they been designed for todays younger generation. They are based off the lives of beverly hills teens loaded with money and exposed to the hollywood scene. Teens today envy the luxiourious lifestyle, and these shows expose them to this kind of world even if its completely unrealistic.

Ameican Idol or Dancing with the Stars?

Definitely American Idol. However I may be a little biased on the subject because I have been an avid fan of American Idol since the second season, and watching it on Tuesday nights has become a family tradition. But then again that is another reason why American Idol beats Dancing with the Stars.
American Idol first came to America’s televisions June 11, 2002, as American Idol: The Search for a Superstar. The show has since become one of the most popular in the history of American Television and was number 1 for five consecutive seasons. The show has also created some of the biggest artist in the music industry including: Carry Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Kris Allen, Daughtry, Jordan Sparks, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert. However even after all this, some say American Idol has been beaten out by Dancing with the Stars. This season they are without Paula Abdul who was huge part of the show, and now Simon Cowell isn’t returning either. Can American Idol Last?

Dancing on the Stars on the other hands is gaining popularity and is stealing American Idol’s viewers. I’m a huge American Idol fan but DWTS stars this year are better than ever including Jake Pavelka, and Kate Gosselin. Which show do you prefer?

So im a huge prime time tv fan and watch all the popular shows on right now. In fact I get criticized all the time for watching too much tv, but I cant help myself; there are so many good shows out there and I cant watch just one. You can call me a couch potato. I’m proud of it. =] now, im no connoisseur, but I feel that I have a pretty good grip on whats good and what s not so good. And im confident that I have comprised a solid top 5 list to share with you guys 1. Criminal minds 2. Esperate housewives 3. The office 4. Gossip girl 5. The big bang theory

I’m pretty confident in that list, but I wanted to see what the public had to say. Thanks to tv guide I have found the top five viewd programs. American idol and dancing with the starts are technically the top two, but I wanted scripted. So heres the top 5

1. Lost - An addictive hit centered around stranded plane-crash survivors on an eerie Pacific island. These resiliant victims are haunted by flashbacks to their pasts, hostile island inhabitants called the Others, and other mysterious events you wouldn’t expect to happen. Six of the survivors are eventually rescued and return to the U.S. for awhile.

2. NCIS -A successful hit about criminal cases involving Navy and Marine personnel, handled by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

3. CSI

4. 24 - An exciting action series about U.S. counterterrorist agent Jack Bauer trying to save his country from foreign and domestic enemies in the course of 24 hours.

5. Criminal Minds-A hit centered around the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, which profiles criminals to solve crimes. The drama relies on the diversity of the team trying to solve the profile of the perpetrator before he attacks again. The show does more than solves cases, it solves the criminal.
